Col de la Buche – west Couloir + Tour de l’ M 06.02.2012

The strong winds over the past few days have ruined the snow all around the massif, the steep lines are now unskiable and dangerous because of huge slabs.
We set off looking mainly just for good snow rather than gnarly lines so we headed towards Aiguille de l’M.
We climbed the ladders to pass the rocky step and accessed the west couloir of Col de la Buche.
“Seek and ye shall find!”…and we found it!
The couloir that we were supposed to just climb to access the face on the other side was actually full of great powder so we decided to climb it and ski it.
It is not too long but the 15 good turns we put on it were well worth the effort.
We climbed back up again, skied the 100 m on the other side, climbed a further 30m to another col and accessed the north couloir of Aiguille de l’ M.
The snow was perfect all the way down to Cham especially lower down in the steep magic wood.
And for once we managed not to get stuck above some big cliffs…In the Chamonix forest you never know what’s gonna happen!
