“Angelique” Couloir – Les Courtes 18.02.2013

3780 m ; 200 m 50°, 600 m 45° ; South ; TD : 5.3/ E2 (Mont Blanc – Pierre Tardivel)

First big tour and the first big line of the season.
I spent the last 2 months and a half just freeriding off the lifts and the first big outing is always a bit painful although very exciting.
We climbed up the NNE face of Les Courtes in knee deep snow and in thin and very cold air.
I thought a couple of times about ripping down the NNE face but once i reached the Col the warm sun on my face made me change my mind within a second.
The south couloir, called the “Angelique”, was unexpectedly filled by cold powder and no rope was required to enter (normally there is a 60 m rapp).
The ambiance is wild and the couloir super ahestetic.
We had a good time putting big turns down there (last year we skied the South face of Les Courtes in GS turns) with the amazing north face wall of the Grands Jorasses in the background.
Definately one of the best steep skiing in the Massif !!
With the exception of the south face of Les Courtes that had slid out, all the others south faces look pretty good.
Thanks for the company to Ben Briggs and Tom Grant, bootpacker of the day.

Nice work Luca! Way to go getting a really steep, big, couloir descent in excellent snow conditions.
