Has been a weird winter so far, with a lot of bad weather and not so much snow, especially on the French side.
We had some fantastic free riding days and little tourings on the Italian side but did not have yet the possibility of going deep into the mountains for some big lines.
Finally a window of good weather came in and i wanted to go somewhere far from the crowd.
Was the time to go back in the Miage glacier, a wild far place with lots of great couloir lines.
The original plan was to sleep at the Petit Mont Blanc bivouac, ski on sight the Domenech couloir, climb up and ski the Tete Carrè.
The plan changed immediately as soon as we arrived at the Combal lake when we realized that the way up to the bivy was pretty much fucked and too dangerous.
We headed to the Elisabetta Soldini hut instead and skinned up on the long Petit Mont Blanc glacier the early next day.
Even though we knew the couloir has been skied one week before in good conditions (before the last snowfall and the wind) dropping on sight into such a big and long line is pretty committing nevertheless.
It turned out to be one of my top ten lines ever…the wild ambiance in front of the majestic west face of Mont Blanc is breathtaking and the line is long, quite steep and super aesthetic.
We found some ice at top, hidden under 10-15 cm of cold powder and variant snow all the way, which made the descent more technical and delicate.
Glad to be back on the horse.
Today with Cedric Bernardini and Mika Merikanto.
