Valeille Valley – Punta Ondezana + Punta d. Seinge 11/12.04.2014

The good thing of having crap snow conditions in your own resort is that you have the possibility to move, travel and visit new places.
I heard from friends that the conditions are definitely better in the Gran Paradiso massif just an hour driving away on the italian side.
The dark side of the story is that all the approaches there are endless.
We skinned up for 8 kms and 1300 vertical meters with heavy backpacks along the Lillaz valley (a place very famous for ice climbing) to reach the eagle nest bivouac Malvezzi – Antoldi standing on the side of a bowl surrounded by severals appealing lines with all kind of exposures.
The lines are not very long (generally 400 – 500 meters) and not extreme (40°-50°) but it is a magic wild place that does not see too much human traffic.
The next day we skied 2 lines, following the sun, a Northeast facing one in the morning and a West facing one in the afternoon for a total of 850 vertical meters riding.
Surprisingly we found still cold powder on the right bank of the first couloir while we rode the second one in spring corn as expected.
Thanks to my friends Nicklas Hansen, Jerome Defruyt and John Minougue (tracker of the day) for sharing this nice day out and to Davide and Lolò for the infos.
